Leaves are dark green with sharply indented margins and deep purple undersides, giving ‘Nico’ a dramatic contrast. It has a semi-trailing (almost ground-cover) habit that works beautifully in hanging baskets, containers, or along shaded beds. Small lilac-tinged tubular flowers appear from spring through autumn, but the foliage is the main show.
It does best in part shade to full shade and prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. Once established it tolerates short dry spells, though its growth and leaf color are best when moisture is consistent. It is frost-sensitive and should be protected from hard freezes. Pinch back occasionally to keep a bushy shape.
